Introduction

Every control panel that uses 24VDC logic — PLCs, sensors, relays, solenoids — needs a DIN rail power supply (PSU) to convert AC line voltage to the 24VDC your devices expect. Not all PSU’s are equal, and sizing it correctly can save you from real problems. Here’s how to pick the right PULS unit for your panel.

What a DIN Rail Power Supply Does

A PSU takes 120V or 240V AC from the panel’s incoming power and converts it to regulated 24VDC (or other DC voltages) for control circuit devices. The output is regulated, meaning it holds steady voltage even as load changes — critical for sensors and PLCs that are sensitive to voltage fluctuation.

Key Specifications to Understand

  • Output current (amps): This is the main sizing factor. Add up the 24VDC draw of every device in your panel.
  • Input voltage range: Single-phase 100–240V AC is standard. Three-phase input is available for larger supplies.
  • Efficiency: PULS is known for industry-leading efficiency — up to 95.5%. Higher efficiency means less heat and longer MTBF.
  • DIN rail mounting width: Critical for tight panels. PULS makes some of the narrowest units available per amp output.

Don’t Forget Derating

Always add a 20–25% margin above your calculated load. If your devices draw 14A total, size for a 20A unit — not a 15A unit running at 93% capacity. When the temperature rises and your machine is going all out, your PSU will thank you.
